Affiliations
CID - Central Institute for the Deaf is located within and is a member of the Washington University Medical Center, which includes the School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish-Children's Hospitals. The CID school is closely affiliated with the Washington University School of Medicine
PACS program for the graduate-level education of teachers of the deaf, audiologists and scientists. Our working relationship with this program supports high professional standards and the use of progressive technologies and educational procedures to help children who are deaf and hard of hearing learn to talk. Master teachers, audiologists and administrators in the CID school are also members of the Washington University School of Medicine faculty. They regularly present university courses,
continuing education deaf education workshops,
in-services and professional talks at CID, in the St. Louis community and throughout the U.S.
On-site CID pediatric audiologists, speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists provide evaluation, deaf education and consulting services for our students. They offer transition assistance and make recommendations for educational placement when CID school children are ready to graduate. This team also evaluates prospective school students.
CID benefits from affiliation with the internationally renowned Harold W. Siebens Hearing Research Center, the Center for Childhood Deafness and other laboratory sites composing hearing and deafness research at
CID at Washington University School of Medicine, as well as with CID at Washington University School of Medicine adult
hearing clinics.
The CID school staff cooperates and collaborates wtih childhood deafness researchers at Washington University and elsewhere. The goal is to improve technologies and educational methods for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. CID research-based
books, tests and curricula are used throughout the world to help children develop speech, language and auditory abilities.
CID - Central Institute for the Deaf is a member of the organization of OPTIONSchools. This organization is dedicated to providing opportunities for children who are deaf and hard of hearing worldwide to learn to listen and talk.
