EARLY
INTERVENTION FOR CHILDREN WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT
November 8, 2007
$150 .6 ASHA CEUs
Widespread early
identification laws have made it necessary for today's service providers to
be trained to work with infants and babies with hearing impairment in their
natural environment. This
workshop is designed to help speech pathologists, early childhood special
education teachers and audiologists feel more confident working with a very
young population and their families. The participants will be given
resources to use when supporting families, through the process of audiologic
testing and amplification, and information on parent education. They will
also learn about evaluating children and tracking their progress. Additional
topics include: the benefits of small group instruction, activities for
developing beginning communication skills and serving children who may have
additional disabilities. >MORE
ABOUT THE EARLY INTERVENTION WORKSHOP
THE
NEW AUDITORY-ORAL PRESCHOOL
November 9, 2007
$150 .6 ASHA CEUs
With more than 90
years of experience, and in correlation with recent research findings, the
CID auditory-oral preschool program has been designed to foster the global
development of hearing-impaired children and their hearing peers. Components
of this successful program include speech, language and auditory curricula,
an early childhood curriculum designed to foster the development of the
whole child, integration of hearing children to foster pragmatic language
development, a strong focus on early literacy and theme-based learning.
Additional program components include assessment practices, occupational
therapy and mainstream support.
This workshop will
provide teachers and administrators practical information with which to
design or enhance their own auditory-oral preschool programs. The workshop
includes an explanation of the rationale behind the development of the New
Auditory-Oral Preschool at CID and its success. Participants will have
an opportunity to observe CID's preschool program and network with
professionals in the field of auditory-oral deaf education.
