Summer School Scholarship support is now available for hearing-impaired children 3-12 years of age attending the 5-week summer school session, Thursday, June 19 through Friday, July 25, at the CID auditory-oral school in St. Louis, Missouri. The program features morning classes in speech, language, auditory training and early literacy for the 3- to 5-year-olds and academic instruction in reading and literature in addition to speech, language and auditory training for the older children. Learning is theme-based in the morning while the afternoon is filled with summer camp activities designed to provide less formal structure in a language rich environment. All activities are supervised by expert educators of the deaf using the auditory-oral method. In the afternoons, children 3-5 will participate in fun summer activities on-site in a colorful, child-friendly environment designed to meet their needs. Children 5-12 will go on off-site field trips to St. Louis attractions. Last year's excursions included the City Museum, Rockwoods Reservation for cave and pond exploration, the St. Louis Science Center, the Magic House and the St. Louis Zoo. Limited enrollment is available for students who qualify. The deadline for application is April 1. Ask about affordable accommodations for families.
