CID School Staff The CID teaching staff offers an outstanding combination of enthusiasm, experience, energy and warmth to create the optimal learning environment for children. All CID classroom teachers maintain certification from the State of Missouri and all teachers of the deaf have master's degrees and maintain certification from the Council on Education of the Deaf (CED) as well. Several have additional certifications in learning disabilities and early childhood education. Professional development is a priority at CID and we make sure our teachers are always learning. CID classroom teachers are supported by teachers of physical education, music and early childhood education as well as by experienced educational audiologists, speech-language pathologists, an occupational therapist, a school nurse and a school counselor, who is profoundly deaf. We also consult regularly and as needed with professionals from other disciplines, including faculty and graduate students at Washington University School of Medicine, to meet the children's individual needs and to help them succeed. CID pediatric audiologists and speech-language pathologists hold master's degrees in their specialties and are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). CID's coordinator of pediatric audiology holds a PhD in speech and hearing sciences from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She and many CID teachers serve on the faculty in the Washington University School of Medicine Program in Audiology and Communication Sciences (PACS), a CID at Washington University School of Medicine program. CID teachers are among the program's instructors, serve on faculty committees and provide practicum educational opportunities for PACS students, including future audiologists and teachers of the deaf. The executive director of CID was trained as a teacher of the deaf and spent 12 years at CID teaching deaf children to talk. Our director, co-principals and many of our teachers also have children of their own. They value parents as the children's first and most important teachers and welcome them as vital members of the CID educational team. |
