Affiliations Central Institute for the Deaf is located within and is a member of the Washington University Medical Center, which includes the School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish-Children's Hospitals. Our affiliation with CID at Washington University School of Medicine's PACS program for the graduate-level education of teachers of the deaf, audiologists and scientists supports high professional standards and the use of progressive technologies and educational procedures to help deaf children learn to talk. Master teachers, audiologists and administrators in the CID oral school for deaf children, who are also members of the Washington University School of Medicine faculty, regularly present courses, continuing education deaf education workshops, in-service professional education and professional talks at CID, in the St. Louis community and throughout the U.S. On-site CID pediatric audiologists, speech pathologists and psychometrists provide evaluation, deaf education and consulting services and offer assistance in making recommendations for educational placement when CID school children are ready to graduate. This team also evaluates prospective school students. CID benefits from affiliation with the internationally renowned Harold W. Siebens Hearing Research Center, the Center for Childhood Deafness and other laboratory sites composing hearing and deafness research at CID at Washington University School of Medicine, as well as with CID at Washington University School of Medicine hearing clinics. Childhood deafness research scientists at Washington University and elsewhere collaborate with the CID school educational staff to investigate technologies and techniques for helping deaf children learn to succeed. CID research-based books, tests and curricula are used throughout the world to help deaf children develop speech, language and auditory abilities. Central Institute for the Deaf is a member of the organization of OPTION Schools dedicated to providing opportunities for deaf children throughout the world to learn to listen and to talk. CID is a member of the United Way of Greater St. Louis and the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association. |
